Veritas Improved Micro-Adjusting Wheel Marking Gauge
Veritas has enriched upon their decades old wheel marking gauge designs with some ultra-fine enhancements on this improved version.
Inside the stainless-steel rod of the gauge is an inner shaft whose fine pitched internal threads allow you to precisely move the hardened steel wheel cutter within a range of 1/4″, so you can easily dial in a final setting and secure its position with a locking knob.
The rod passes eccentrically through the large round brass face of the gauge’s head that has a diameter of 1-13/16″. This off center placement provides more surface area for the head to ensure square registration with your stock and keeps the gauge from rolling about on your benchtop. The head and body of the gauge slides easily on the non-graduated rod and locks securely in place with a large brass knurled knob.
The wheel cutter is far superior over pin scoring marking gauges since you don’t have to tilt the gauge to scribe a chatter-free line and the cutter will avoid the annoying tendency of following wood grain. Veritas’ cutter wheel, with a single sided bevel, helps draw the gauge up against your stock to maintain accuracy. You can also use the rod to accurately transfer depth dimension settings on your projects.
The end of the rod and cutter fully retract into the head’s face to stay protected during storage and allow the gauge to sit upright. The stainless steel rod is available separately as an upgrade for earlier versions of the Veritas Wheel Marking gauges.
