I Bought a SawStop Tablesaw
(although I wish I'd gotten it sooner)

Just before my 54th birthday, I was using my old tablesaw to cut some pieces of poplar
into long strips to hold glass panels in cabinet doors. I had done cuts like this safely many times before, but this time something distracted me and I
must have taken my eye off the saw for a fraction of a second. To my pain and horror, all of a sudden I realized I had cut myself.
It shocked me how incredibly fast it all happened.

Seven Day Maloof Inspired Rocker Class
Taught at Highland Woodworking
Five fine woodworkers journeyed from across the country in January to attend Charles Brock's Maloof Inspired Rocker
class at Highland Woodworking in Atlanta. For seven days it was total immersion in
bandsawing, joining, routing, rasping, drilling, bending, gluing and scraping walnut stock
to create the parts they would then assemble into their dream rockers.

Russian Woodworker Builds Maloof Inspired Rocking Chair

After Vladimir Parfenov saw a picture of a Sam Maloof rocker,
like myself he was blown away by its beautiful shape. According to Vladimir, woodworking education is no longer taught in Russia, so he had to research his woodworking
interests on the Internet. After we connected online last year, Vladimir undertook the challenge of building a Maloof inspired rocker using
our plans and instructions.

is now receiving the recognition that he so richly deserves. Dilo contributed four articles to

baroque-inspired masterpieces in rosewood while working by hand in a tiny shop inside a closet only 42 sq-ft in area.

Question:
I am interested in giving my kitchen cabinets a "facelift." They are old and dingy-looking. I'm not
sure what kind of wood they're made of, but they are stained a reddish brown and appear to have a
thin coat of a clear finish over them. I would like to avoid stripping and re-staining them; I would
simply like to enhance the existing finish and make it look a little richer.
Is this even possible? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sharpening and Using Hand Planes Class Taught by Thomas Lie-Nielsen at Highland Woodworking
Twenty students from around the country participated in a daylong hands-on class taught at Highland
Woodworking by iconic toolmaker Thomas Lie-Nielsen on January 24, 2010. After a video tour of
the Lie-Nielsen Toolworks factory in Warren, Maine, the class spent the morning learning and
applying the prinicples of sharpening plane irons and chisels.
During the afternoon session, the
class members were given the opportunity to master setting up and tuning a hand plane for optimum
performance. All left with a renewed sense of appreciation for hand craftsmanship and fine
woodworking tools. Our thanks to Thomas Lie-Nielsen and his assistant Alexandra Geske for a
memorable woodworking learning experience.
