Class: Introduction to Marquetry with Jane Burke, May 17 Introduction to Marquetry Class

Marquetry is the art of using different colors of carefully cut and precisely fitted wood veneers to create designs in a single veneer sheet. This "picture" sheet can then be applied any project. In the class Jane will discuss how to create designs and select veneers most suited for marquetry and show how to apply the designs to your project. You will make a small project that will incorporate most of the basic cutting and gluing techniques required to do any marquetry project.

BOOK REVIEW:
A Guide to Hand Tools and Methods
by David Charlesworth

A Guide to Hand Tools and Methods Review by
J. Norman Reid
Delaplane, VA

This brief (144 pages) guide to hand tools is a gem. Drawing on David Charlesworth's 30-plus years of experience as a cabinetmaker, it contains much valuable information I've not seen anywhere else. Unlike some other hand tool treatments, it's not encyclopedic but focuses on selected and especially important tools. What sets it apart from other hand tool books is Charlesworth's opinionated stance.

WOOD SLICER Testimonial

Wood Slicer resawing blade I had to tell you how pleased I am with this saw blade. I was skeptical but also hopeful. This saw blade is as good as you claim. I resaw wood for my scroll saw projects and have had a difficult time in the past trying to sand out the back side. I used hard maple for my first test and was impressed. It only needed a light sanding. Thank you again.  - Paul Longawa
